Member Survey on the incorporation of the MCFA as subsection of Euroscience

There is a concrete proposal for the creation of a Marie Curie Division within EuroScience. We invite you to join the discussion about it and to take part in a survey, in which we ask about your opinion on this proposal.

Post your opinion about this proposal in the Discussion forum. The results of the survey can be found here.

We shall describe the main points of this proposal in what follows:

  • A new Division within EuroScience called "Marie Curie Division" will be created, which all MCFA members are invited to join. The current international association under Belgian law is dissolved after a suitable transition period.
  • All members of this Marie Curie Division will automatically become full members of EuroScience with all voting rights, active and passive.

  • The EuroScience membership fee of 35 Euro per year will be waived for MCFA members for the first few years (this point is up to negotiation).

  • The Marie Curie Division has its own democratically elected Board and defines its own membership criteria. In particular, membership in the Marie Curie Division will continue to be restricted to Marie Curie fellows, unless the members of the Marie Curie Division themselves decide to change the admission criteria.

  • The Marie Curie Division is free to establish itself as a legal entity in its own right.

  • The Marie Curie Division will be represented in the Governing Board of EuroScience through the usual election process. The EuroScience Board is elected every two years, the next elections taking place in June 2002.

  • EuroScience has a staffed office in Strasbourg, that will take care of the day-to-day matters related to the running of the Marie Curie Division.

This is the basic content of the proposal. It bears benefits both for the community of Marie Curie fellows and EuroScience, but it also has certain disadvantages.

This is an invitation to discuss the advantages and drawbacks of the present proposal. The Board hopes that many members will use this opportunity to express their views on this topic.

Looking forward to a lively discussion,

the MCFA Board
