Training and career prospects of young scientists in Europe
At the initiative of the EuroScience working group "Future of young scientists", representatives of the three principal associations of Young Scientists in Europe ( MCFA, Eurodoc, Pi-net) got together in order to form a new, targeted Joint Working Group. One of the goals of this new working group was to set up a survey among young scientists in Europe regarding their views on a couple of key questions related to their PhD and post-doctoral training and their career prospects in a changing European labour market.
The preliminary results of the survey were presented at the EuroScience conference "New Science and Technology based Professions in Europe" that took place in Bischenberg, France, November 6-9, 2002. An article presenting a short analysis of the responses collected during the first few weeks of the survey has appeared in the ELSO Gazette of February 2003 (Issue Number 13).
The survey is now concluded. The survey results are displayed online on this page. An in-depth analysis of the results is underway and will be used in order to formulate concrete recommendations to policy makers and other stake holders.
If you would like to make further comments on the survey or the topics treated in the survey, please post these in the public discussion forum at http://www.mariecurie.org/discuss.
